The Employer Support Center was established in order to provide employers with the tools and knowledge to attract, recruit and retain employees with disabilities. As the operational arm of the Department for the Integration of Workers with Disabilities in the Labour Market (Ministry of Trade and Industry), the Center provides a range of services and supports to enable employers to enjoy the best that employees with disabilities have to offer.

The Center aims to increase the number of employers who are willing to employ people with disabilities, thereby increasing the number and range of work opportunities available to this population. The Center hopes to foster a culture of accessible employment and promote both the social and economic value inherent in this.

The service includes access to specialist disability employment advice (hotline and onsite visits), tailored programs for the workplace, and assistance in submitting requests to the Ministry of Trade and Industry for costs incurred by workplace adjustments.

Experience and research has shown that employers who choose to employ people with disabilities enjoy both social and economic  rewards over time, and that the returns on investment – for the employee, the employer, the workplace and society – are significant.

Services offered by the Center include:

Employer hotline –  general information regarding the employment of people with disabilities, workplace accommodations, financial supports available via the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Professional advice – troubleshooting and tools regarding workplace accommodations and accessibility in the workplace. Case managers (professionals with specialist knowledge in the area of disability employment) are on hand to provide support via telephone, email or a face-to-face meeting.

Tailored disability employment program – includes analysis of business' workforce needs, work station analysis and recommendations for accessible job design, management of recruitment processes, distribution of job descriptions to jobseekers, professional advice regarding retention of workers with disabilities and workplace accommodations. Employers are eligible for this support at no cost (fifteen months).
